awn-bwm : Introduction

awn-bwm (AWN Bandwidth Monitor) is an applet for the Avant Window Navigator dock that provides an auto-scaling bandwidth throughput meter to your AWN dock.

This applet displays line-graphs for upload traffic and download traffic in the dock, including the text representation of both values in either Kbps|Mbps or KBps|MBps.

Clicking the Applet icon will popup:

  • A larger graph with points
  • Options to list available interfaces which also displays their current throughput and status
  • A toggle for throughput unit of measure (Kbps/KBps)
  • Wireless signal strength support when a wireless device is selected

Wow, this page was really out of date! We are up to version 0.4.1 now (last page update was for 0.3.9.3) - since then the applet has become way better (note my bias).

Installation:

  • This applet is now included in the core applets package (debian: awn-applets-python-core-trunk) - so if you are using the AWN trunk launchpad repository (ppa:awn-testing/ppa) you already have it installed.

Instructions for using the awn-testing apt repository can be found here: http://wiki.awn-project.org/DistributionGuides#Testing_Package_Archive

There is an issue with users who don't have '/sbin' in their path not being able to detect a network device - This only affects version prior to v0.3.9.2

If you have any trouble - please file a bug at the launchpad page https://bugs.launchpad.net/awn-extras/+filebug
